Steps to Detail Your Interior

Remove All Trash and Debris

It may seem obvious, but removing all loose trash inside your vehicle is the first thing you'll want to do. This may include water bottles, wrappers, old receipts, or any other loose items. You may be tempted to leave some trash for the vacuum, but be sure anything you leave behind can't become lodged inside of your vacuum!

Remove Floor Mats

After removing all of the loose trash in your car, it's time to take out the floor mats. Shake them or beat them to remove dirt and dust before vacuuming. There may be stubborn stains or odors that will need to be removed with a special cleaner.

Vacuum the Interior

After removing the floor mats, vacuum the inside of your car. Start by vacuuming the higher areas first, such as the dash and seats. Any dirt or trash that falls in the process will be cleaned up as you move to the lower areas of your car. Use a crevice attachment to get into the hard-to-reach areas. From here, move down to the carpet to finish the job. Be sure to vacuum all hard surfaces as well.

Clean Hard Surfaces

Wipe down your car's hard surfaces after vacuuming the interior. Hard surfaces include the dash, the center console, door panels, and pillars. Use a microfiber cloth for these surfaces. Microfiber cloths work better than regular towels because they attract dirt and absorb liquid better. Cotton towels tend to leave strands of lent behind.

Clean the Windows

Clean your windows last! Use a glass cleaner and microfiber towel to wipe down the windows. Be sure not to leave any smudges. If your windows are tinted, ensure your cleaner is ammonia free to avoid any damage. Don't use regular towels because they are slightly abrasive and could damage the tint.

Bonus: Apply Protectant

Applying a protectant to your car's interior hard surfaces isn't necessary but highly recommended. Over time, UV rays and other factors cause fading and cracking. There are specific protectants for the various services of your car, such as leather, vinyl, or plastic. Be sure to use the proper protectant for the surface you are applying it on.
